Collection contains the McCallums' research files concerning their reearch on the history and development of barbed wire in the United States (including their files for "The Wire That Fenced the West"), which contain correspondence, clippings, reprints and photocopies of patents, notes, maps, and miscellaneous printed materials. Collection also contains correspondence, clippings, manuscripts written by other authors about barbed wire, notebooks, miscellaneous printed materials, and miscellaneous periodicals. A galley proof of the book "The Wire That Fenced the West", an oversized literary map of Texas, and a poster of barbed wire samples are in this collection as well.

Henry D. McCallum and Frances T. McCallum were historical writers during the second half of the twentieth century.
